Jeff’s research focuses on the pre-clinical and clinical development of novel cancer therapeutics, specifically how to exploit laboratory models to determine the biological function of key tumour suppressor genes and oncogenes in both normal tissues and tumours. This will allow the identification and characterisation of the signalling pathways that are deregulated at the early stages of pancreatic cancer as well as during the development and progression of the invasive and metastatic phenotype, and the role of the tumour microenvironment in these processes. The models will also be used to determine how potential anticancer agents might best be evaluated in subsequent clinical trials. He leads Phase I – Phase III clinical trials in pancreatic cancer in Glasgow and is a member of the NCRI pancreatic cancer sub-group.
